The Province - Vancouver, BC February 16, 2010
Eco-cultural tourism: About one in every 10 black bears in the central coast is white, caused by a recessive gene.
By Susan Fournier - Staff ReporterDoug Neasloss has spent a dozen years guiding viewers to the rare white spirit bear in its coastal B.C. rainforest habitat.
Neasloss, of the Kitasoo Xai'xais First Nation, says it has been extrmely rare to find bones of the elusive bear, which is protected in the world's only white bear conservancy in the Great Bear Rainforest.
Yesterday at the B.C.Pavilion, Neasloss cradled the skull of a young Spirit Bear, about nine years old, that he found earlier this year.
